Just Write is built for novelists. Your unpublished book is sacred. This page states how we handle manuscripts and AI — in plain language.

1. You own your book

You retain ownership of your manuscript and story bible content. We process it only to operate the service you asked for (editing, sync, beta programs, craft feedback, export, and related features). See also our Terms and Privacy Policy.

2. We do not train on your manuscripts

Just Write does not use your book to train our own models. When craft features call a third-party model provider, we use commercial API offerings whose default terms do not train on API inputs. We pursue stronger zero-data-retention (ZDR) or partnership terms where available.

3. AI is a partner, never the author

Story Craft and related tools analyze, mentor, and suggest thin, explainable edits. They do not write your book for you. Suggested changes are reviewable — including variation compare with optional reasons — and nothing lands in your manuscript without your approval.

4. Who can see your work

Access is scoped to you and people you invite (for example beta readers or editors). Beta program access is meant to end when the program closes. We aim for least-privilege access and encryption in transit.

5. Subprocessors (summary)

• Hosting and database (cloud provider for the Just Write deployment)
• Stripe — payments (card data handled by Stripe; we do not store full card numbers)
• Model providers used for Story Craft / LLM features (commercial API, no-train-by-default tier)
• Object storage for covers, audio, and attachments when those features are enabled

A fuller list will expand as providers are contracted; re-verify terms before enterprise commitments.

6. Backups and durability

We run automated database backups on a defined schedule and treat restore drills as a release discipline. You can also export DOCX, PDF, and EPUB, and keep a local desktop copy when using the desktop app — you are never locked in.
